• It has been over two years since the birth of this blog... there has never been a break in my continuing forage around Melbourne and across the beautiful corners of the world, and now feel more than ever that my blog is my portal of sharing and preserving my experiences and thoughts. I do hope you have enjoyed it so far. I will endeavour to continue what I do - my way of course.

Postcards: Zaanse Schans & Haarlem

For those with a little time in their hands, a day trip to Zaanse Schans from Amsterdam might be worth your while if getting your eyes on the iconic Dutch windmills is on your bucket list. It is a touristy destination, but where else are you going to see people make clogs, Delft ware and … Continue reading

Guide to Amsterdam, Netherlands

Finishing up in Copenhagen, my next stop would be Amsterdam where I would stay for close to a week in my sister’s apartment, before we jet off to the sands of Morocco. I came to Amsterdam this time round with fairly low expectations, with my first visit 2012 leaving behind an imprinted generalisation of a … Continue reading

Vue De Monde, wine tutorial with SIA – a selection from Shannon Bennett’s empire (part 2)

Our slothful lunch began with a tipple of 2004 Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon and Krug Grande Cuvée NV. These iconic numbers are routinely served on board first class. I personally preferred the rounded savoury noted of the former. After a little chit-chat we promptly (eagerly) turned the page to begin our indulgence first with the white wine selection.

Bistro Vue, Piggery café – a selection from Shannon Bennett’s empire (part 1)

The fairy tale success of Shannon Bennett’s ever expanding restaurant empire, could easily be pigeonholed into increasing commercialisation. However, in light of a few (and only a few) hiccups along the way, with the new Jardin Tan eliciting polarising reviews on dabbling its in Vietnamese cuisine, and notably the haphazard consistency at Café Vue at … Continue reading

Dining Asian in Melbourne roundup (part1) – Mr Huang Jin, ShanDong Mama, Fomo Thai

Living in Melbourne has never been such a privilege with such a rich culture in Asian cuisine, which in the past few years has expanded, shifted and matured exponentially from the early dingy takeaway interpretations to now having a vast array of niche ethnic flavours, with many beginning to push archaic preconceptions and contemporary boundaries. … Continue reading

Guide to Copenhagen, Denmark

The capital of Denmark, Copenhagen would be the second leg of my most recent European escapade. In all honesty Copenhagen was at first not on my list of top places to visit – for what reason I do not know. The lure of exciting world class Nordic cuisine (see: Geranium), flashy architecture, and being home to centuries old fairy … Continue reading

Eating in Copenhagen: Geranium

Nothing in Scandinavia is cheap, especially and most certainly not food. But that did not stop Ravenous and his partner in crime from dining on some of Copenhagen’s finest food, from sleek Nordic cocktail bars, to the infamous open sandwiches, Danish butter creations and of course some Michelin starred institutes. This first post on Geranium, … Continue reading

A little camera in hand or SLR left at home?

I recently read an article on EyeVoyage, that stirred a question inside me – which is better: a little camera in hand or a SLR that is left at home? This question has crossed my mind on several occasions particularly in the past few months of travelling – feeling the extra strain on my shoulders while … Continue reading

Taking a Londoner on a taste of Melbourne: Movida, Tonka, Cup of Truth, Le Petit Gateau.

When a visitor comes to visit us in Melbourne, it is never easy drawing up an itinerary that would best showcase what our food scene has to offer. Luckily for our friend from London, she would be here for much longer than the usual holiday stint, which gave me less pressure do it all. Nonetheless … Continue reading

Brae Restaurant – degustation dinner in the little town of Birregurra

“…The entire day was to be a grand lead-up to what would emerge as the highlight experience of the weekend. Dan Hunter’s (ex-Royal Mail Hotel) newest venture – Brae – was one of the reasons the Great Ocean Road was the destination elected for this road trip…” [Great Ocean Road – A weekend Getaway] The drive inland to … Continue reading

Great Ocean Road, Victoria – A weekend getaway.

Now that the winter chill is in full swing with the mercury barely hitting the low teens, what better time to plan ahead for a weekend getaway in regional Victoria. Spring is only just around the corner, right? A few months ago over the Easter holidays, three friends embarked on a 3 day road trip … Continue reading

Prix Fixe

As Melbourne’s first ticketed restaurant and with Melbourne’s dessert Queen Philippa Sibley (Ex: Albert street, Il Fornaio) at the helm, there was no doubt high anticipation leading to its over-the-top launch earlier this year. The prix fixe menu (fixed price set menu) changes each month with a focus on serving comfort food, with the current … Continue reading

France through a viewfinder: Paris

Note. Postcard shots from each stop on my trip in France will follow as a parallel series alongside Devouring France. Whilst winter may have dawned on Paris, with a cloudy gloom veiled over the streets for much of the days, one will never grow tired of its beautiful canvas. Although I did revisit some of the … Continue reading

Devouring France: Paris

Quoting my own new year resolutions for 2014 – to eat better (*cough, healthier), be less stressed, be more industrious and write more – I have certainly ticked the first 3 items, but have taken quite a long break from blogging (3 months to be exact), for which I largely blame on writer’s block and … Continue reading

Queenstown: Top things to do during Summer

Having spent a fair while exploring Wellington and *ahem* visiting my sister (Travel & Food guides to Wellington), I then took a detour down to Queenstown, hired a car and thus began my northward travel back towards Wellington along South Island’s stunningly diverse west coast. A few travel details: How did I get there? I … Continue reading

Ravenous Memoirs of 2013

In retrospect 2013 has been an incredibly hectic year filled with an unbelievably gluttonous quantity of food related activities and excessive imbibing, which has inevitably meant I have remained in a perpetual blogger backlog going as far back as May. It has also been a year of much hair wrenching work stress, setting in motion … Continue reading

Food Guide to Wellington: Logan Brown, Tatsushi, Charley Noble, Ortega.

This shall be a brief run down on several favourite places I managed to dine at during my short stay in Wellington. As I have said previously in my last post – Travel guide to Wellington – this smallish city is a melting pot for food. Read about brunch options, Wellington’s Sunday food market, and … Continue reading

Travel guide to Wellington – Top things to do

Wellington may be known for its volatile weather, at times crossing several seasons – hurricane winds, flash rain, and sunshine all in a day, but this harbour city is full of character. The pristine water glistens, the air breathes of the surrounding lush hills (acting like the lungs of the city), and yet for such … Continue reading
