T’was a Sunday afternoon, and naturally one would be feeling a little peckish.
Then again that might just be my worms talking – I’ve been accused of being infested with worms on many occasions due to my incessant hunger. Usually takes me around 20 minutes to digest and feel hungry again and maybe +20 minutes for a crazy big meal. Though I must say if I got treated for worms (if I had worms that is) then how would I be “almost always ravenous”???
Anyways, so where does one go in the north-eastern suburbs for some afternoon sustenance? Laurent Bouleangerie Patisserie, which is nestled along the busy Ivanhoe shopping strip.
Being ‘peckish’ and all, I decided going against my instincts for their delicate pastries and go with something savoury and more substantial – Tuna baguette. This was humungous (though not as ridiculously big like the legend burger) with a huge stratum of tuna – aka protein and omega 3. Though the tuna mix was a tad dry – it needed more succulence whether it be mayonnaise or additional punchy fruit / veggies. Not an awesome baguette but it sure was hunger satisfying – almost a food coma but not quite yet =).
The others went on a mini burger spree – Salami mini-burger, Chicken mini-burger, Turkey mini-burger. The cute-nature of these miniature sized burger/rolls was clearly the marketing point that sold Jenny and Bonnie over. Taste wise they received satisfactory reviews, suffering from similar problems in lacking an extra punch of flavour. And indeed cute they were, but I’d probably needed to have eaten 5+. I must admit though, their breads are quite tasty, nicely crusty and still fluffy on the inside.
Rating: Average. Comparatively speaking with similar prices for their savoury foods, I would be much happier to return for Café Vue at Heide’s (mini) chicken roll . *To be fair though, this is just a rating on their savoury foods that we had today*. Their sweets / pastries / coffees are far superior than their savoury! Thus, next time I shall just stick with those!
There is a Laurent on my side of town as well. I tried their savoury sandwiches and found them to be rather unsatisfying. I’ve never been back since. Are the sweets really good? Coz I find myself hard pressed to go back there after a bad first impression.
Yeh their sweets are pretty good. Must say I haven’t been back in a while, given how many new places have popped up… way way way too many places on my wishlist.
Of note though, they generally err on the sweeter side, but still a pretty good patisserie. =)
p.s. by your side of town, u mean the west side yeh? … ah, the minute I think west side I’m already contemplating parisian patisserie =). yummy!
btw is this your site http://berrytravels.com??? =)
